Now: Nineteen Sixty Four

Threshold   Audio Drama, released 2012                                                           Doctor: 0

Featuring the Counter-Measures Group

Written by Paul Finch.

Takes place principally in Bermondsey, a district of London. Glad All Over. featured, topped the British charts in January 1964 CE.

The Door To A Winter Long Ago   Comic story, published 2013                       Doctor: 11

Featuring Clara

Written by Jason Loborik.

Takes place on Parliament Hill, a district of London; the earlier sections dated January 1964 CE.

The 1964 film Children of the Damned has a certain aesthetic compatibility with Doctor Who: it leaves unresolved the question of whether its hyperintelligent, telekinetic children are aliens or super-advanced Tellurians (which would raise the question of who had super-advanced them). Like other narratives to which I will be drawing attention, its events and atmosphere suggest the Second War in Heaven, though it is impossible to say which ‘side’ these children would be on.

Artificial Intelligence   Audio Drama, released 2012                                   Doctor: 0

Featuring the Counter-Measures Group

Written by Matt Fitton.

Takes place in London, some time after Threshold.

Gangland   Comic story, released 2015                                                                   Doctor: 12

Featuring the Time Lords, the Judoon, Clara, with Ice Warriors, Earth Reptiles, Sontarans, Zygons, Hath, the Vigil

Written by Robbie Morrison.

(informed guess) Takes place on Janizzar and in Las Vegas, Na.; the later section self-dated 1964 CE.

The Judoon are space-travelling rhinoform bipeds originating on the planet Judoonia.

The Ice Warriors are space-travelling reptilian bipeds originating on the planet Mars.

The Earth Reptiles are reptilian bipeds originating on the planet Earth, by my estimation in the Cretaceous era.

The Sontarans are a space-travelling race of green or grey bipeds, not readily comparable to any Tellurian life. Their earliest recorded location is the Sontaran Warburg, as the contemporaries of the pre-Chronarchical Gallifreyans (Cat’s Cradle: Time’s Crucible), which would be some three billion years before the Common Era, I believe.

The Zygons are a space-travelling race of bipeds, again not obviously analogous to any Tellurian species, but giving the general impression that they evolved stuck up something. They originated on the planet Zygor.

The Hath are space-travelling piscine bipeds of unknown origin.

The Vigil are space-travelling bipeds who might just be humanoids wearing elaborate enclosing headpieces. All seven of these species were allied with the Time Lords, which suggests a prediliction towards bipedality on their part, and might be an example of their unconscious bias shaping the universe.

Las Vegas was a city of Nevada, at this time a landlocked constituent state of the USA.

The Lord of Misrule   Audio Drama, released 2013                                      Doctor: 0

Featuring Dorian Gray

Written by Simon Barnard.

Takes place in the UK; self-dated 1964 CE. Historically, hysteria over violence between Mods and Rockers peaked in May of that year.

Dorian Gray is a Tellurian born in 1862 CE and granted immortality by mysterious forces. As he seems to be of ambiguous fictionality, it may be that he has been touched in some way by the Second War in Heaven.

Wave of Destruction   Audio Drama, released 2016                                     Doctor: 4

Featuring the Vardans, K9 II, Romana

Written by Justin Richards.

Takes place in London; self-dated June 1964 CE.

The Vardans are space-travelling non-Tellurian humanoids, being contemporaries of the Time Lords, and thus having been around for a very long time by this point.

Romanadvoratrelundar, known as Romana, is a Time Lord, born (which we are given to understand is unusual for Time Lords), by her own account, some six hundred and twenty years after the Doctor’s looming.

The Reesinger Process   Audio Drama, released 2014                            Doctor: 0

Featuring the Counter-Measures Group

Written by Justin Richards.

Takes place in London, shortly before the general election of October 1964 CE.

The Zargathon Menace   Charity short story, published 1998                             Doctor: 4

featuring K9 II, Romana, Tom Baker, and Ian (glimpse)

Written by Jonathan Morris.

Takes place mainly in the BBC Television Centre, Wood Lane, in London; the principal action is self-dated Autumn, 1964 CE.

Tom Baker is a Tellurian born in 1934 CE.

The Pelage Project   Audio Drama, released 2012                                          Doctor: 0

Featuring the Counter-Measures Group, with Venus (informative mention)

Written by Ian Potter.

Takes place in London and Pelage, a new town on the English coast; self-datedly soon after the general election.

Venus was at this point the second planet of the Solar System out from the Sun (Earth is of course the third).

State of Emergency   Audio Drama, released 2012                                        Doctor: 0

Featuring the Counter-Measures Group

Written by Justin Richards.

Takes place in London and Starnforth, a village about fifty kilometres outside London, soon after The Pelage Project.

A Long Night   Short story, published 2003                                                            Doctor: 1

featuring Barbara

Written by Alison Lawson.

Takes place partly in London; self-dated November, 1964 CE.

A Story for Christmas   Comic story, published 1966                                             Doctor: 1

featuring Gillian, John, Santa Claus

No writers were credited for the comic stories featuring the first Doctor in TV Comic, but it’s very noticeable that each of the three artists who worked on it, illustrated a series of stories distinctly different in tone to the other two. It was not uncommon for British comics illustrators to write their own narrative at this time, and it is a hypothesis that fits these differences in tone. The stories drawn, as this one is, by Bill Mevin, who also edited TV Comic, are playful and rambling, giving him plenty of opportunities for comic grotesques. (You wouldn’t quite want to catch this Santa Claus emerging from your fireplace).

Takes place in the domain of Santa Claus, the Christmas before The Man Who (Nearly) Killed Christmas.

Gillian and John are, presumably, Tellurians, who believe themselves, and may be, the Doctor’s grandchildren. I assume they would have been born in the mid-1950s CE.
