Now:
Nineteen Eighty-Nine
In the Community Illustrated short story, published 1992 Doctor: 7
featuring
Ace, and the Daleks (informative mention)
Written
by Paul Beardsley.
informed guess Takes place in the UK; self-dated over a quarter of a
century after Remembrance of the Daleks.
Whatever
it was that the TV series Twin Peaks (1990-2017) is about, it hugely
feels like an incursion of The Enemy, the Red Lodge and its linked realities
being plausibly a theatre of the Second War in Heaven. The first two seasons,
and the feature length prequels Fire Walk With Me and Missing Pieces
are largely set in February 1989 and the following weeks.
The Ultimate Adventure Audio adaptation
of a stage play, released 2008 Doctor: 6
featuring
the Daleks, the Cybermen
Written
by Terrance Dicks.
informed guess Takes place in Paris, London and offworld. The
original stage play was performed in 1988 CE; however, it seems to me that a
group of Cybermen would be more likely to be desperate enough to act as
mercenaries for time-travelling Daleks after the destruction of their fleet in Silver Nemesis. Margaret Thatcher is
still Prime Minister of the UK, however.
Car of the Century Comic story, published 1968 Doctor: 2
featuring
Gillian, John
Written
by Roger Noel Cook.
informed guess Takes place on the planet Velon; self-dated 1989 CE.
Business Unusual Novel, published 1997 Doctor: 6
featuring
Lethbridge-Stewart, the Nestene
Consciousness, C19, Mel, with UNIT (glimpse), and the Master, the Usurians (informative
mention)
Written
by Gary Russell.
Takes
place in and near Brighton; self-dated July 1989 CE. Mel leaves linear time in
this story, being aboard the TARDIS as it dematerialises.
The
Usurians are a spacefaring race of sentient fungus. The fact that they
are about now and geological ages later in The Sun Makers in much the
same form suggests that like the Sontarans and Rutan – or Tellurians, come to
that, they represent a form of evolutionary equilibrium, remaining morphically
static at least partially by conscious effort of will.
Clobberin’ Time Comic story,
published 1989 Doctor: 7 (informative mention)
featuring
Death’s Head
Written
by Simon Furman.
informed guess Takes place in a version of New York, NY; self-dated
1989 CE.
Survival TV Story, broadcast 1989 Doctor: 7
featuring
the Master, Ace
Written
by Rona Munro, script edited by Andrew Cartmel.
informed guess Takes place in Perivale, a district of London and on
the Hunting Planet; dated summer 1989 CE by Parkin in Ahistory.
Time Out Charity
drabble, published 1993 Doctor: Unbound
Written
by Mervyn Haisman.
Takes
place under the BBC Television Centre; implicitly in 1989 CE.
Crime of the Century Audio Drama, released 2011 Doctor: 7
Featuring Ace, Raine, the Metatraxi
Written by
Andrew Cartmel.
Takes
place in London, not far south of Scotland and south west Asia; self-dated
October 1989 CE.
The Metatraxi are an insectoid ,
spacefaring species from the planet Safenesthome.
Anne
Billson’s 1993 vampire novel Suckers, set in “the late eighties”, is
compatible with Doctor Who continuity on the subject of the undead.
The Meeting Illustrated short story, published 199o Doctor: Unbound
version of 1
Written
by John Lucarotti.
Takes
place in Paris; published in 1990 CE and self-dated “last October”.
Father Time Novel, published 2001 Doctor: 8
(the Amnesiac sequence)
Featuring
Miranda, with the Time Lords, UNIT, Iris
Wildthyme and possibly the Daleks (informative mention)
Takes place in Derbyshire, Kent, India, Florida and above
Earth, concluding self-datedly just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. I am assuming, as Lance Parking must mean me to conclude, that Faction
Klade are descendants, or successors, of the Daleks, from the end of the
universe, reverted to humanoid form. A hospital notices no difference in their
biology from Tellurians: it may be relevant that We Are the
Daleks! (illustrated short story) reveals that the Daleks were
descended from Tellurian hominids, taken from prehistoric Earth by the
Halldons, and thus Tellurians’ cousins
The
Broken Man Comic story, published 2012 Doctor: 11
Featuring Amy, possibly as a ganger, Rory, Annabel Lake
Written by Scott Gray.
Takes place in Prague;
self-dated November, 1989 CE.
Annabel Lake is a Tellurian born in the early 1980s CE. Despite
her name, she has no hidden connection to Amy Pond, presumably because Steven
Moffat wasn’t writing her.
Protect
and Survive Audio Drama, released 2012 Doctor: 7
Featuring Ace,
Hex, with Lysandra, Sally (glimpse)
Written by Jonathan Morris.
Takes place in a version of the north of
England; self-dated November 1989 CE.
Lysandra Aristedes is a
Tellurian born in in 1982 CE.
Sally Morgan is a
Tellurian born in 2000 CE.
