place in France, during one of the three Premierships of Lord Salisbury, here
called Lord Cecil, but he had inherited the Marquessate of Salisbury back in
the 1860s CE. Salisbury, vigorously brown-haired, is travelling to diplomatic negotiations
on the continent. I shall assume that these lead up to the Anglo-German treaty
of July 1890 CE.

The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Short story, published 1892 Doctor: 0
featuring Sherlock Holmes
Written by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Takes place in London and Hampshire; dated March 1890 CE by Keefvauer
in the Birlstone
Railway Timetable. Modern adaptors of
Sherlock Holmes tend to make Irene Adler Holmes’s love interest, But Violet
Hunter seems to me a far more likely candidate. True, Watson says that Holmes
had no further involvement with her after the case, but a couple of years later
she is the principal of a prestigious school in the Midlands, despite having no
money, family or social connections. How is she likely to have got the
interview, and references? The most obvious explanation is that Holmes
organised it. Why would he conceal it from Watson? The obvious, very Holmesian,
reason is that he wanted Watson to keep his nose out of his emotional life. I
think Doyle is telling us that Watson sees but, alas, he continues not to
observe.
The Pest of Paternoster Row

sewers has led me to place it near The Talons of Weng Chiang.

Prologue: Erasing Sherlock
Short story, published 2005 Doctor: 0
Featuring Sherlock Holmes, Faction Paradox
Written
by Kelly Hale.
Takes place in London; self-dated October, 1890 CE. I am assuming that

0
Featuring the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the Paternoster Gang
Written

The Snowmen TV story, broadcast 2012 Doctor: 11
Featuring the Great Intelligence, the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the
Paternoster Gang, Clara +, with Clara (glimpse)
Written
by Steven Moffat.
Takes
place in London; self-dated Christmas 1892 CE. The origin of the Great
Intelligence given in this story apparently contradicts its status as
Yog-Sothoth, strategist of the Old Great Ones as related in All-Consuming Fire; but The Abominable Snowmen
suggests that its relationship with individual human beings is problematic:
perhaps it requires them to make sense of our universe. Dr Simeon’s suggestion
that Vastra is Conan Doyle’s inspiration seems to be clear of the mark.

Featuring the remembered Fitz, Anji, Sabbath, with Death (glimpse)
Written
by Lloyd Rose.
Takes
place in London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Dartmoor and Wales, concluding in August
and dated 1893 CE in Time Zero. This
contains what I think is the only description of a vulva in licenced Doctor Who
prose, and appropriately, I think, for Doctor Who, it’s Death’s vulva.

Things That Doctor
Who Writers Who Want To Set Things In “The Present” Should Find Difficult To
Ignore. Though Quite Likely They’ll Just Pile More Stuff In.
MUCH OF THE EAST
END IS GODZILLA’D BY RAMPAGING SKARASENS. ALSO, AT ONE POINT THE ACTION APPEARS
TO BE TAKING PLACE BY THE THAMES...AT SHOREDITCH. SO THE CITY OF LONDON HAS PRESUMABLY
BECOME AN ISLAND.
The Curious Case of the Miniature Menaces Illustrated short story, published 2016 Doctor: 0
Featuring the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the Paternoster Gang
Written
by Tommy Donbavand.
Takes
place in Greenwich; self-dated February 1894 CE.
The Ghosts of
Greenwich
Audio drama, released 2019 Doctor: 0
Featuring the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the Paternoster Gang
Written
by Paul Morris.
Takes
place in Greenwich; self-dated February 1894 CE. This, rather annoyingly from
my point of view, offers an alternative account of the explosion that historically took
place at the Royal Observatory at this time to the one given in The Curious Case
of the Miniature Menaces. All I can suggest is that as the negative chronons that flow along
the meridian are “the very enemy of causality”, the event having more than one
mutually exclusive cause may well be the natural outcome. Also, negative
chronons sound like the sort of thing that The Enemy might be into, so this
might all be an aspect of the Second War in Heaven.
Time Zero Novel, published 2002 Doctor: 8
Featuring the remembered Fitz, Anji, Sabbath, Trix, with Control (informative mention)
Written
by Justin Richards.
Takes
place in London and Siberia; partly self-dated early 1894 CE. Trix presumably
leaves linear time, being (surreptitiously) aboard the TARDIS as it
dematerialises, although there is some suggestion that she has travelled in
time already.

Ceiling

Featuring Carnacki, the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the Paternoster Gang

Featuring the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the Paternoster Gang

time machine is inspired by the one described in H G Wells’s 1895 novella The
Time Machine.

Featuring the Earth Reptiles, the Sontarans, the Paternoster Gang
