Then Again: The Late Twenty-Seventh Century
Dante 01 (2008) is set in a
psychiatric facility orbiting a world in a stellar system distant from Earth.
This seems a reasonable time to slot it in.
Nevermore Audio drama,
released 2010 Doctor: 8
Featuring Tamsin, with the Time Lords (informative mention)
Written
by Alan Barnes.
Informed guess Takes
place on the eponymous Tellurian-settled world, in a wealthy but not entirely
peaceful society.
The Edge Audio drama,
released 2016 Doctor: 2
Featuring Jamie, Zoe
Written
by Rob Nisbet.
Informed guess Takes
place in The Edge, in Tellurian space, at a time when its institutions are
described as “galactic”.
Approximate Time of Death Short story,
published 1997 Doctor:
0
featuring the Forrester family
Written by Richard Salter.
Informed guess Takes place on Jedharon, some decades after the
Overcities began proliferating on Earth. The Whoniverse places the
story in the seventh decade of the twenty-seventh century CE.
Ascension Charity short story, published 1998 Doctor:
7
featuring Chris, with the Daleks, Ace, Benny, Roz (informative
mention)
Written by Stephen Graves.
Informed guess Takes place on In’sav’aar; the Adjudicators are the
local interstellar policing authority.
Continuity Errors and Afterword Short story, published 1996 Doctor: 7
featuring Benny, and the Daleks, Jo, Tegan, Peri (informative
mention)
Written by Steven Moffat.
Takes place mostly on New Alexandria; self-dated 2668 CE.
Companion Short story, published 2008 Doctor:
8
Written by James
Moran.
Takes place in Avelar, Brazil;
self-dated Christmas 2672 CE. There seems to be a possibility of war between
Brazil and either Russia or China: I don’t know how this would work in the
context of the Earth Empire.
Shadowmind: Prelude Illustrated
short story, published 1993 Doctor:
0
Written by
Christopher Bulis.
Takes place on and above Tairngire; a few days before Shadowmind.

published 1993
Doctor:
7
featuring Ace, Benny, and the Daleks, the Draconians
(informative mention)
Written by Christopher Bulis.
Takes place on Tairngire and Arden, and points near and in between;
self-dated 2673 CE.
The Sandman Audio drama,
released 2002 Doctor:
6
featuring Evelyn
Written by Simon A Forward.
Takes place in space; dated 2675 CE by Parkin in Ahistory.
The Havoc of Empires Audio drama,
released 2015 Doctor:
3
Featuring Yates, Jo
Written by Andy Lane.
Takes place in or near Tellurian space; self-dated 2679 CE.
Midnight TV story, broadcast 2008 Doctor:
10
Featuring Donna, with Rose (glimpse)
Written by Russell T Davies.
Informed guess Takes place on Midnight; dated the 27th century CE by The Time
Traveller’s Almanac.
One Bad Apple Short story, published 1999 Doctor:
4
featuring Leela, and the Cybermen (informative mention)
Written by Simon Forward.
Informed guess Takes place on Paradise (probably not the planet of
that name in Star
Tigers); while the Earth Empire
is destroying the last significant Cyberman forces.
The Lost Flame Audio story, released 2017 Doctor:
12
Featuring Alex, Brandon
Written by George Mann and Cavan Scott.
Informed guess Takes place on Escalupia, described as being
in the First Great and Bountiful Human Empire. The word “First” demonstrates
that this is a title bestowed by historians no earlier than the Second. I see
no reason why they should not have applied it to the Tellurian empire of the
late third/early fourth millennia.
Ten Little Aliens Novel,
published 2002
Doctor:
1
featuring Polly, Ben
Written by Stephen Cole.
Informed guess Takes place in and around the Earth Empire; dated ‘90.
Why I Respectfully Disagree With Lance Parkin’s
Dating
Ahistory places this in
the later Empire, owing to the very warlike nature of the Imperial military.
The “two hundred years of peace” mentioned in The Mechanical Planet might support
this view. Yet there is no neofeudal structure mentioned, citizenship of Earth
has a kudos not apparent in Original
Sin or So Vile a Sin, and it feels culturally closer to the old Earth
alliance than the later Empire. As far as peace is concerned, the Schirr and
the Morpheans are described as the only current threats to the Empire. It is
notable that we never meet, or even find a reference to, any Tellurians outside
the military in this novel: it's as if the Imperial military is a society - and
a huge, interstellar one - within a society, whose members have no interest in
the civilian world, and little exchange of information with it. It seems
plausible that the Schirr and Morphean operations - like the Builder Wars and
the campaigns of Primitives and One
Bad Apple - are simply unknown to
those imperial citizens - the vast majority - who are not directly involved
with them.
The Great Journey of Life Ends Here Charity short story, published 1998 Doctor: 6
featuring the Macra, the Nimon, Peri
Written by Gary Russell
Informed guess Takes place on Melkos III; self-dated during the Empire,
at a time when planetary colonisation is regarded as socially perverse.
Cold Fusion Novel,
published 1996
Doctors:
5, 7
featuring the Time Lords, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Roz,
Chris
Written by Lance Parkin.
Takes place on an unnamed Imperial world, in or slightly after 2692 CE.
Why I Respectfully Disagree With Lance Parkin’s
Dating
Ahistory describes the
wardroid’s copyright date of 2692 as a typographical error, and sets the story
a century before; but this suggests that the empire, already vast, exists
during Benny’s time in Tellurian space without ever being mentioned, which I do
not find plausible.
The Breach Charity short story, published 2001 Doctor:
1
featuring the Time Lords, Steven, the Yssgaroth
Written by Daniel Kukwa.
Informed guess Takes place in space, during the Earth Empire;
probably the first, probably early on (there is no neofeudal structure
mentioned).
