Informed guess Takes place in Devil’s End, after The Cat Who Walked Through Walls as published, but before The Daemons

Olive Hawthorne is a Tellurian born in about 1930 CE, going by actor Damaris Hayman’s age when The Daemons was being made.

Devil’s End was a village in Wiltshire, a landlocked English county east of Somerset.

The Impossible Astronaut     TV story, broadcast 2011                 Doctor: 11

Featuring River Song, the ganger Amy, Rory, the Silents

Written by Steven Moffat

Takes place partly in Washington D.C., Utah and Florida; mostly self-dated April 1969 CE.

The Silents are a time-travelling bipedal species, engineered by the Church of the Papal Mainframe by at least the early sixth millennium CE.

Washington was the capital city of the USA, its surrounding area near the east coast designated the District of Columbia and unrepresented in the US Congress for constitutional reasons. It lay on the Potomac River between the coastal states of Maryland to the northeast and Virginia to the southwest.

Utah was a landlocked constituent state of the USA, lying east of Nevada.

Florida was constituent state of the USA, occupying a peninsula on the southeast coast between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

One Cold Step     Short story, published 2015                                           Doctor: 0

Written by David A.McIntee and Andy Frankham-Allen.

Featuring The Travers family, with UNIT (informative mention)

The Schizoid Earth       Novel, published 2015                              Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the British Republic, with the Master, as we may reasonably surmise (glimpse)

Written by David A.McIntee.

Takes place pivotally in Deepdene, Suffolk; self-dated April 1969 CE.

The Master, who at one stage, possibly including this story, unless it takes place during a different stage when he was doing it, was calling himself Koschei, is a Time Lord and contemporary of the Doctor. It may be that like Romana he was born rather than loomed: certainly he began his life neotonously (The Sound of Drums), itself unusual for a Time Lord.

Suffolk was a county on the east coast of England, north of Essex.

The Slakken Cat       Comic story, published 2009                                   Doctor: 10

Featuring Heather

Written by Craig Donaghy.

Informed guess Takes place on Earth; self-dated 1969 CE.

Revolution Man    Novel, published 1999                                     Doctor: 8

Featuring Sam, Fitz

Written by Paul Leonard.

Takes place in London, the Vale of Kashmir, Rome, Tibet, Sichuan Province and Ramsgate, ending self-datedly in May 1969 CE.

The Vale of Kashmir was at this time split between and disputed by Pakistan and India,
two republics on the south coast of Asia, the largest of Earth’s seven continents and
home to some sixty percent of its population. It lay mostly in the northern hemisphere,
separated from Europe to the west by the Ural mountains, and North America to the
east by the Pacific Ocean, though to the north both continents extended peninsulas
towards each other so that they were separated only by the Bering Straits, joining the
Pacific to the Arctic Ocean. Australia lay to its southeast, on the other side of the
Indonesian Archipelago.

Rome was the capital city of Italy, a republic of southern Europe, mainly situated on a
peninsula extending southward into the Mediterranean Sea and lying south of
Switzerland and southeast of France.

Tibet was a landlocked former monarchy of Asia, lying north of India, at this point forcibly
incorporated into China.

China was a republic on the east coast of Asia, the world’s second-largest nation and its
most populous. Sichuan was a landlocked province of it, north and east of Tibet.

Ramsgate was a port on the east coast of Kent.

Things That Doctor Who Writers Who Want To Set Things In “The Present” Should Find Difficult To Ignore. Though Quite Likely They’ll Just Pile More Stuff In.

QUITE PROBABLY NOTHING, AS THE DOCTOR’S USE OF OM-TSOR ENABLES HIM TO RETCON CAUSALITY TO A MASSIVE DEGREE.

The Cult of the Grinning Man  Illustrated short story, published 2015          Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart

Written by Tom Dexter.

Takes place in Llandudno; self-dated May 1969 CE and immediately before Beast of
Fang Rock.

Llandudno was a town on the north coast of Wales, a peninsula extending into the Irish
Sea from the west coast of Albion. Administratively, it was a region of England
geographically, historically, linguistically and culturally it was a constituent nation of the
UK.

Beast of Fang Rock    Novel, published 2015                              Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Travers family, the Rutan, with the Counter Measures Group (informative mention)

Written by Andy Frankham-Allen, from a story by Terrance Dicks.

Takes place on an island off the south coast of Albion; self-dated May 1969 CE. In
Who Killed Toby Kinsella? it is established that Air Vice-Marshall Gilmore is officially
dead at this time. Still, in the Doctor Who continuum, the authorities seem to
be a swarm of agencies keeping secrets from each other. It is perhaps not
dissimilar to real life in that regard.

The Rutan are an amorphous, space travelling, biologically colonial, occasionally
crystalline species, originally from Ruta III. They were locked in interstellar combat with
the Sontarans for a very long time: various durations have been asserted for the conflict,
but in Cat’s Cradle: Time’s Crucible we learn that the two species were in dispute when
the Gallifreyans became the Time Lords, upwards of three billion years previously. We
may reasonably view the Sontaro-Rutan War as a spacefaring species in itself, its
antagonists two different modes of its existence, as more conventional species have two
sexes. How after all would a colonial species develop a warrior-braggart culture other
than by conscious or unconscious imitation of the Sontarans? As the Sontarans lost
some of their sense of individuality, so the Rutan seem, bizarrely, to have acquired
some.

The Dogs of War    Illustrated short story, published 2015            Doctors: 2, 7 (informative mention)

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Counter Measures Group, the Great Intelligence, the Travers family

Written by Andy-Frankham Allen.

Senor 105 Contra El Bigote de Perdicion   Short story, published 2011             Doctor: 0

Contra Los Monstruos del Fiesta
and The Gulf.

Mutually Assured Domination   Novel, published 2015    Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Travers family, the Quarks and the Dominators

Dartmoor was a rocky plateau in the county of Devon, which occupied a band of the
southwestern English peninsula, east of Cornwall.

The Time Wrestlers   Charity short story, published 2016                       Doctor: 6

Featuring Senor 105, Peri, the War in Heaven, with the Time Lords, Faction Paradox (informative mention)

Written by Lawrence Burton.

Informed guess Takes place more or less in Mexico, probably after Senor 105 Contra El
Bigote de Perdicion, a scene from which features in Against Nature, to which this is a
sequel.

The Planet of Giants       TV story, broadcast 1964                    Doctor: 1

featuring Susan, Barbara, Ian

Written by Louis Marks, script edited by David Whitaker.

Takes place in England, just before House of Giants.

House of Giants   Short story, published 2016                                          Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Travers Family

Written by Rick Cross.

Takes place in England very soon after Mutually Assured Domination.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century: Paint it Black

                                                                                                                            Doctor: 2 (glimpse)

Comic story, published 2011

Featuring Vampires

Written by Alan Moore.

Takes place in London; self-dated July 1969 CE. The Doctor is glimpsed in one panel, his
attention possibly caught by the sound of Thunderbird Two flying overhead.

R.A.Lafferty’s 1969 novel Fourth Mansions describes a chaotic tipping-point in the development of the human race, in which four arcane movements, of which at least one seems to be only partially human, battle for control of the contemporary USA. It pretty well volunteers to be an account of the Second War in Heaven, and must, realistically have influenced its development as a narrative.

Blue Moon      Illustrated short story, published 2009                              Doctor: 10

Featuring Torchwood

Written by Oli Smith.

Takes place in Houston, Tx., and on the Moon; self-dated July 1969 CE.

The Torchwood Institute was an agency of the British Crown founded in 1879 CE with a
brief to defend its possessions from extraterrestrial threat, with a particular emphasis
on acquiring offworld hardware.

The Isle of Wight was an island off the south coast of Albion.

The Black Eggs of Khufu   Illustrated short story, published 2016         Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart

Written by Tom Dexter.

Takes place in Cairo, during Moon Blink.

The metropolis of Cairo was the capital of Egypt, a republic in Africa, a
continent of Earth lying athwart the equator and home to about thirteen percent of the
Earth’s population. Nation and continent were connected to Asia to the northeast by
the Isthmus of Suez. The continent was separated from Europe to the north by the
Mediterranean Sea and Australia to the east by the Indian Ocean.

Moon Blink   Novel, published 2016                                                 Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Travers family, the Rutan, with the USA, Mars, the Dominators (informative mention)

Written by Sadie Miller.

Takes place variously, including Edinburgh and the Moon; self-dated July 1969 CE, and
after the Moon landings.

Edinburgh was the capital city of Scotland.

The Band of Evil   Illustrated short story, published 2016                        Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart

Written by Roger J Simmonds and Shaun Russell.

Takes place in Wembley; self-dated August 1969 CE.

Death of the Author  Short story, published 2015                                   Doctor: 0

Featuring Iris Wildthyme

Written by Paul Dale Smith

Informed guess Takes place partly in Las Vegas, Na., implicitly at a time when Elvis and Priscilla Presley were present. Elvis’s first residency there was August 1969 CE: Priscilla left him in February 1972 CE, so I’m guessing that Iris would have wanted to meet them as far from that unpleasantness as possible. Takes place otherwise in Yorkshire.

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Travers family, with the USA (informative mention)

Written by James Connarty.

The Showstoppers and The Grandfather Infestation.

Exodus from Venus    Short story, published 2016                                  Doctor: 0

The Grandfather Infestation    Novel, published 2016        Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart, the Travers family

Written by John Peel.

Takes place in and around the North Sea and in Edinburgh; self-dated September 1969 CE.

Dr. First     Illustrated short story, published 2017                                     Doctor: 1

Featuring Susan, the Cybermen

Written by Adam Hargreaves.

Takes place in London. The presence of hippies suggests 1969 or 1970 CE.

The Cybermen are cybernetically augmented humanoids: an integral part of the
process, which is generally involuntarily, is the removal of emotions considered to be
weak and unnecessary. This predictably causes Cybermen to be structurally and
systemically psychotic, with a deranged conviction of their own logicality. In World
Enough and Time, the Doctor suggests it is a condition to which humans are endemically
prone, which may remind you of vampirism, but Cybermen on Earth at this time almost
certainly originate on Mondas, described Earth’s twin planet in The Tenth Planet, which
was knocked out of orbit a very long time previously, and now, what going up
necessarily coming down, was hurtling back towards the inner Solar System.

The Runaway Bomb    Short story, published 2017                                  Doctor: 0

Featuring Lethbridge-Stewart

Written by Nick Walters.

Takes place in Snowdonia; self-dated September 1969 CE, and after The Grandfather Infestation.

Snowdonia was a mountainous area of northern Wales.

A Little Help From My Friends    Comic story, published 2020    Doctors: 10, 13

Featuring the Nestene Consciousness, Martha, the Weeping Angels, Graham, Ryan, Yaz

Written by Jody Houser.

Informed guess Takes place in London; self-dated 1969 CE.

The Nestene Consciousness is a disembodied intelligence with a particular affinity for
plastic. You may be disappointed to learn that it is not and never was a Great Old One,
but was according to the Doctor (All Consuming Fire) the progeny of one, originally
hailing from the planet Polymos.

Martha Jones is a Tellurian, born in 1984 CE.

The Weeping Angels are a species of temporal parasites generally seen in the form of quantum-locked petrified humanoids.

Graham O’Brien is a Tellurian born in the late 1950s CE.

Ryan Sinclair is a Tellurian born in about 1999 CE.

Yasmin Khan, known as Yaz, is a Tellurian born in 1999 CE.

Test Flight  Comic story, published 1969                                                    Doctor: 2

featuring the Cybermen

Written by ?John Canning.

contemporary to publication Takes place in and above the USA. Knight’s rank of Commander indicates that he is an officer of the USNAF rather than the USAAF.

Whisper     Audio Drama, released 2019                                                 Doctor: 8

Featuring Liv, Helen, the Eleven

Written by Matt Fitton.

Arbitrary placement (As I have explained, there are a substantial number of stories offering no evidence of when they should be dated in relation to anything else. I am assuming that some of these stories, although taking place a long way from Earth, are happening contemporaneously. This is one such randomly selected story). Takes place at the Still Foundation.

The Eleven is a Time Lord of the First Restoration. As the First Restoration seems to have lasted less than two thousand years altogether, and the Eleven had got through seven regenerations already when first encountered, I’m guessing that he was a Time Lord of the original Chronarchy, restored from the Matrix back-up in the Doctor’s head (The Gallifrey Chronicles).
