Then Again: The Late Twenty-Third Century
The Black Hole(1979)
is set in 2130, which is much too early for Doctor Who narrative given that
Rellurians have had super-lightspeed travel for over twenty years. I’m
performing the Galactic standard conversion on it and suggesting it for 2250
CE. Interestingly, a date is given of 2130, day 547, suggesting automatic
calendar adjustments to keep years in line despite time dilation and
compression as a result of super-lightspeed.
Invasion of the Ormazoids Game book, published 1986 Doctor: 6
Written by Philip Martin.
Informed guess Takes place mostly on Tokl and Orm; self-dated the
23rd century, I’d guess after the revolution in FTL travel.
#Night of the Whisper Audio drama, released 2013
Doctors: 9, with 11 (glimpse)
Featuring Rose, Captain Jack
Written by Cavan Scott and Mark Wright.
Informed guess Takes place on New Vegas; self-dated the 23rd
century CE.
Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone
(1983) is set against a background of extensive interstellar travel from Earth.
Its given date of 2136 is a bit early for that, so, assuming Galactic Standard
dating, I’m suggesting it for Doctor Who narrative in 2256 CE.
SLEEPY Novel, published 1996 Doctor:
7
featuring Death, Benny, Roz, Chris, with the Daleks, Mel
(informative mention)
Written by Kate Orman.
Takes place partly on Yemaya 4; self-dated 2257 CE.
The Warren Legacy Audio short
story. released 2015 Doctor:
4
Featuring the
Plantagenet dynasty, K9 II, Romana
Written by Justin Richards.
Informed guess Takes place variously, including regional
England and Jaffa; the later sections take place in Tellurian space, not too
many centuries after the eighteenth.
Second Skin Game
book, published 2008 Doctor: 10
Written by Richard Dungworth.
Informed guess Takes
place on a space station in Tellurian space; self-dated the 23rd
century CE.
The Hunting of the Slook Short story,
published 2006 Doctor: Unbound
7
Written by Marc Platt.
Informed guess Takes
place in Tellurian space; self-dated thirty years and more after 2237 CE. Some
of these events are or should be negated by DS al Fine.
By the Book Comic story,
published 2013 Doctor: 11
Featuring Clara
Written by Eddie Robson.
Takes place apparently in
the Solar System; self-dated 2269 CE.
The First Wave Audio drama, released 2011 Doctor: 1
Featuring Steven, Oliver, the Vardans
Written
by Simon Guerrier.
Informed guess Takes
place on Grace Alone; self-dated the 23rd century CE.
Colony of Death Illustrated short story, published 1980 Doctor: 4
featuring K9 II, Romana
Written by the World Distributors Annual 1981 team.
Informed guess Takes place in the Solar System in the Twenty-Third
century CE. Earth is densely populated, so some decades after The Dalek Invasion of Earth, but before the wars that once again wiped out most
of its population by 2290 CE, according to David Fisher in Doctor Who and The Leisure Hive.
Memory Lane Audio drama, released
2006 Doctor:
8
featuring Charley, C’rizz
Written by Eddie Robson
Informed guess Takes place on Lucentra; self-dated two hundred and
twenty-seven years after the early to mid-twenty-first century CE.
Taurus: Growing Higher Short story, published 2002 Doctor: 8
Featuring Fitz
or the remembered Fitz, with the Nimon (informative mention)
Written by Paul Leonard.
Informed guess Takes place on the Moon. The Doctor says it is “eighty-seven” years
since human beings died in war, so the implied date of 2094 CE doesn’t work,
and neither does the possible Galactic Standard date of 2214. I’m assuming he means in the Solar System), so
I am also assuming this is after the Oil Wars, and very soon before the
genocidal conflict of Doctor Who and
The Leisure Hive. Presumably the Doctor is
keen to keep the Moon out of this. I must assume that the calendar by which Sewa
Singh’s birth date is 2012 is one I have not encountered elsewhere.
The Tyrants of Logic Audio drama, released
2018 Doctor: 3
Featuring the
Cybermen, Jo
Written by Marc Platt.
Takes place on Burnt Salt;
self-dated 2284 CE.
Shadows of the Vashta Nerada Video game, released 2010 Doctor: 11
Featuring the
Vashta Nerada, Amy
Written by Phil Ford.
Takes place in a submerged and pestilential London; self-dated a
Christmas in the 23rd century CE. I’m assuming the flooding,
apparently local to London rather than global, as Venice, of all places, has
survived it (The Stones of
Venice), is the result of the depopulating global
wars (World War IV?) mentioned in Doctor Who and
The Leisure Hive.
Doctor Who In An Exciting Adventure With The Daleks
Novelisation of a TV story, published 1964 Doctor:
Unbound 1
featuring Unbound Daleks, Unbound Susan, Unbound
Barbara, Unbound Ian
Adapted by David Whitaker from a script by Terry Nation.
This is a version of the events of The Daleks, which take
place on Skaro, dated 2290 CE in the TARDIS Logs. Although the beginning of this
account also takes place on Barnes Common, in London.
The Jigsaw War Audio drama, released
2012 Doctor: 2
Featuring Jamie
Written by Eddie Robson.
Informed guess Takes place in the Unheld system, which has been part of Tellurian
space for eighty-nine years.
Doctor Who and The Leisure Hive Novelisation of a TV
story, published 1982 Doctor: 4
featuring Romana, and K9 II (glimpse)
Adapted by David Fisher from his own script, edited by Christopher H
Bidmead.
Takes place briefly at Brighton but mostly on Argolis; self-dated 2290
CE.
Repeat Prescription Charity short story, published 2018
Doctors:
10, with 2, 7, 13 (glimpse)
Written by Eddie Robson.
Informed guess Takes place presumably in Japan, far enough in the future that there is
widespread automation and viable time travel research.
Wish You Were Here Short story, published 1998 Doctor:
6
Written by Guy Clapperton.
Informed guess Takes place on Nestra, in the future but not too
far from the Victorian era; plausibly part of the culture of interstellar holidaymaking
seen in Nightmare of Eden and Doctor
Who and The Leisure Hive.
The Stones of Venice Audio drama, released
2001 Doctor:
8
featuring Charley
Written by Paul Magrs.
Takes place in Venice; dated 2294 CE in Neverland. Presumably, the
Duke gained control of this republican city a century previously during the
neo-feudal anarchy following the Dalek occupation.
Hook, Line and Sinker Comic story, published 2010 Doctor: 10
Featuring Heather
Written by Christopher
Cooper.
Informed guess Takes place in, beneath and outside Las Vegas, Na, sufficiently far in
the future for an excavation the size of Luxembourg to have been made beneath
Nevada.
Whispers of Terror Audio drama, released
1999 Doctor:
6
featuring Peri
Written by Justin Richards.
Parkin in
Ahistory places this probably on
Earth, dated 2295 CE.
Gazing Void Short story, published 2003 Doctor: 8
Written by Huw Wilkins.
Informed guess Takes place on a planet settled by Tellurians for some time, though not
integrated into an interstellar society.
Daybreak Audio drama, released
2019 Doctor: 1
Featuring Barbara,
Ian, Vicki
Written by John Pritchard.
Informed guess Takes place on Earth; self-dated the twenty-third century. I’m assuming
that the state of Unitaria came into being during Doctor
Who and The Leisure Hive’s depopulating conflicts.
Reversal of Fortune Short story, published 2003 Doctor: 8
Written by Graeme Burk.
Takes place on a generation starship. When it began its voyage, late
twentieth-century jazz was “centuries” old; the latest time frame is about a
century or less after that.
